Lasercutter 2.0

Several upgrades for a K40 laser cutter:

  • Designed, laser-cut & printed a new front panel

  • Added an Arduino-powered LCD interface for precise power regulation

    • Rotating encoder knob to set power level in 1% increments

    • Default power level can be written to EEPROM

    • Integrated a water flow sensor: automatically shuts off laser in case of a cooling loop failure

    • Source code available on GitHub

  • New internal controller: Makerbase MKS SBASE V1.3 32bit

    • Running Smoothieware, allowing us to use the awesome LightBurn software

    • Can additionally modulate power via PWM, enabling higher-resolution picture engravings

  • Line lasers and a top-mounted camera allow easy positioning of work pieces

  • Air assist: purges debris from the cutting site, allowing for cleaner and deeper cuts
